This coming week, a core team of experienced Don Bosco Camp leaders working alongside Don Bosco Youth Retreat Team’s coordinator, Emily Walter and Victoria’s Pride of Australia Inspiration Award Winner, Ashley Trethowan will offer 60 young people an opportunity to experience the dynamic approach to Salesian youth ministry and leadership. This leadership training camp is based on the principles of ‘learn by doing’ in a fun and challenging environment.
This Leadership Camp is an essential pre-requisite for any young person who wants to volunteer as a leader on the 2012 Salesian Holiday Camp Programs at Safety Beach (Dromana). These camps have flourished due to the dedicated participation of leaders, SDBs & FMAs in formation and core leadership teams who have embraced the Salesian identity. These leaders offer young campers a camping experience that is so vibrant and unique, that it exceeds everyone’s expectations of “just a holiday at the beach”. Camps have been conducted at Safety Beach for 67 years.
The core team of the Don Bosco Camp Leaders is a committed and passionate group of young people who specialise in the day to day planning, organization, running and evaluation of the Salesian Holiday Camps. As a team they have a wealth of experience gained from being involved in holiday camps, retreats and leadership training for young people. These young people tirelessly offer their time and experience as they work with the Salesian philosophy of friendship and serving the Lord with Joy as they walk alongside the young people in their care.
The Leadership Camp offers all participants significant working tools, along with memorable and valuable experiences that have been designed to support, encourage and equip them to work in a wide variety of youth activities eg youth groups, parishes, schools, community groups, camps etc
A weekend leadership camp is planned for March 2012 for more information about this camp or about leadership training in general at the Don Bosco Camp please contact Ashley, Emily, Camp Staff (03) 5987 2692 or visit www.donboscocamp.org
