2017 Year of Peace for Burma

The Salesian Cardinal Charles Bo of Rangoon has declared the year 2017 as the Year of Peace.

Cardinal Bo is deeply concerned with the wars raging in his own country where many are tortured, killed and displaced. In particular, the northern part of Burma, naturally rich with many resources Kachin State, is badly attacked by the Burmese military.

People of all faiths are encouraged by the Cardinal to keep 1st January 2017 as a day of fasting and prayer for the peace in the country. People are also encouraged to wear a badge or carry a banner to make people aware of their dislike for war and desire for peace.

Burma has been led by a democratic government from the beginning of this year. Yet, there are many matters the State Councillor Aung San Suu Kyi has to sort out for the good of all people living in the country.

The Catholic Church also leads the way for peace, development, and democracy in Burma.

Please say a prayer with a fast on 1st January 2017 for peace in Burma.
