Br. John Baptist Thuy Xuan Nguyen made Perpetual Profession as a Salesian of Don Bosco in front of his many friends at St. Margaret Mary’s church in North Brunswick on 30th January. It was during the vigil celebration of the solemn feast of St. John Bosco, 31st January.
The church was packed with friends including two bishops, the Salesian provincial, Salesian brothers and priests, Salesian Sisters, Salesian Cooperators, religious and diocesan priests. Fr. Frank Moloney, the provincial, was the main celebrant at the Eucharist which was preached by Bishop Tim Costelloe SDB DD, who was a rector of Br. Thuy for a couple of years.
In his homily, Bishop Tim encouraged Thuy to follow the example of Mary, the mother of God and help of Christians, who listened to God’s call to bring His Son into the world to save the humanity. Br. Thuy is to bring God’s love to the world especially to the poor and the abandoned for the rest of his life.
It certainly was a proud moment for Br. Thuy who came to Australia as a teenage refugee many years ago. He now is a perpetually professed Salesian who has given his life to work for all young people in Australia.
Br. Thuy thanked all people who came to his Perpetual Profession and to all those who have been part of his life, both in English and Vietnamese, at the end of the Eucharist.
Reception was held in the parish hall following the Eucharist. Different types of Vietnamese foods and a variety of drinks were served to all guests.
Br. Thuy is now being appointed to Dominic College at Glenorchy in Tasmania to work as a assistant computer technician.
Congratulation and thanks Br. Thuy for your total and selfless commitment to God, to the Salesian Society, and to the young people of Australia.
