Almost all Australia Pacific rectors gathered for two days with the Provincial and members of the Provincial Council in what many commented was a very candid, honest and supportive sharing of hopes and challenges.
Our meeting was interspersed with key periods of prayer where we reflected on the Constitutional guidelines for our shared ministry of leadership, and the two concelebrated Eucharists presided by the Provincial and Vice Provincial.
Following a candid sharing of the current situation in each of our communities, Fr Will opened the discussion on the way forward by revisiting the recommendations from the Province Bicentenary Conference in 2015. This was rounded out on the second day through a sharing of community action plans and an analysis of the Province Road Map which had been given to Fr. Will by the Rector Major to guide his (and, in turn, our) governance and animation of the province during his term of office.
Br. Michael Harris chaired thoughtful discussion on the best care of our sick and elderly confreres, Damian Giddens outlined the coming financial changes, and we had opportunity to meet with our newly appointed Child Protection Safeguarding Officer, Tom Bagot. The warm hospitality of the Province Centre encouraged lively informal dialogue during meals and breaks and a number of key issues were identified for discussion at two further meetings scheduled for this year.
