Salesians remembered the feast of their Father and Founder
The feast of St. John Bosco was celebrated with prayer, fun and feast at Don Bosco Philosophate in Pyin Oo Lwin, Myanmar, on Monday, 31 January, 2011.
The day actually began at 6:30 am with meditation led by the rector, Fr. Francis Dass, followed by a special breakfast. Clerics then prepared the place for the Eucharistic celebrattion, and games for most morning.
Games and competitions were held during the day. There was a special guest. Amidst the shouts of joy and screams of excitement from the young Salesians, SDBs and FMAs, ever wearing the white cassok and organizing the events of the day was our eighty-two-year old, Fr. Cyril Francis SDB, the Master of the games.
Although the community of the Don Bosco Philosophate served the main dishes for lunch, visitors too brought their delicious dishes to share with the rest. More games and activites continued on in the afternoon.
The solemn Mass in honour of Don Bosco began at 5:30 pm that was led by the Rector, Fr. Francis Dass. About 200 people including Salesian sisters, past pupils, cooperators and friends joined in the Eucharist. In his homily, Fr. Francis explained to all participants about St. John Bosco who fulfilled his God-given duty to save the young in his life. We as Salesians are also called to do so.
Fr. Francis also mentioned that Don Bosco had a desire to come to Myanmar [Burma] as a missionary. Therefore, to fulfill his great desire, the relics of Don Bosco will be brought to Inwa, Myanmar (the then Eva kingdom, where Don Bosco wanted to go as a missionary) in April, 2011.
A specialy prepared dinner was served at the conclusion of the Eucharist.
Viva Don Bosco!
