Cagliero ventures into the Solomons

Cagliero ventures into the SolomonsThe Cagliero Project is run by the Salesians of Don Bosco. It offers young Australians the opportunity to volunteer 6-12 months of their time in service of disadvantaged youth in Asia and the Pacific.

The program continues to grow and in 2011 will begin a new placement with the Salesian Sisters in the Solomon Islands. The Sisters have recently opened a women’s hostel that provides a home for up to 36 women who are studying in the local schools.

Many previously came from far away villages and disruptive environments. This allows the young women to live in a positive atmosphere and focus on their studies.

In 2011 the Cagliero Project will send a volunteer to live and work with the young women. Felicity will tutor the young women in English and will provide classes in Drama and Music. We wish her well as she is the inaugural volunteer for the Cagliero Project in the Solomon Islands.
