It has been a busy and exciting start to 2014 in the Cagliero Office as we currently have seven volunteers on long term placements. We currently have three volunteers living and working with the Salesian Sisters in Mazabuka, Zambia. Emma, Cody and Rena are at the City of Joy working with the Sisters in the community by assisting with the running of the hostel for girls, farm and teaching. They have all settled well into community life and are finding their days are full of a variety of different activities but always priortise working with and being the girls.
Melissa and Romina are both busy working at the Don Bosco Technical School in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Romina who is well known for her work in the Australian Salesian Youth Movement (ASYM) is teaching English classes, assisting at the Sunday oratory and running seminars for the students. Melissa has been utilizing her skills marketing to help with the administration of the school and developing a website for the printing business. Melissa also finds time to assist Romina in the classroom. Bess has been working with the Don Bosco Children’s Fund since June 2013. She will return to Australia in June 2014 and has beautifully contributed to the mission of the DBCF. Lauren recently had the opportunity to visit the volunteers in Cambodia. It was a great experience to see first-hand how the volunteers are making a difference in the lives of Cambodian young people.
Finally, Jasmine has adjusted quickly to sunny Samoa where is living at working with the Salesian Sisters in their new primary school in Malololelei. She is assisting with the reading groups and English classes and spending lots of time getting to know the children at the school. We wish all the volunteers well for the rest of the year. Keep up the good work!
