The annual Catholic Missions Mass was held at St Patrick’s Cathedral in East Melbourne on Wednesday 25th October. Each year a particular focus is given to a country that needs extra support in their struggle in educational activities. Burma was the focus for the Catholic Missions in 2017.
The Burma-born, Fr Will Matthews SDB, was the principal celebrant of the Mass, con-celebrated by a few priests including a visiting priest from the Chin State in Burma. The Chin State is the least developed part of Burma where most residents struggle in their livelihood and the education of their children. The Catholic Missions Office in Melbourne has been helping heavily to the educational works in Burma in the last few years.
Fr Will in his homily invited all attending students and staff to do whatever they can to bring peace and happiness to those in need, particularly the little ones in Burma.
It was a very prayerful Mass complemented by a beautiful choir from the Academy of the Mary Immaculate in Fitzroy.
At the end of the Eucharist, Fr Will thanked all those participants, and specially to the organizers from the Catholic Missions Office, Mr Kevin Meese and the staff.
