School captains from all eight Australian Salesian colleges gathered at Don Bosco Youth Hostel in Adelaide for a leadership conference between 8th and 10th December. This conference was organized and led by Mr. Lynn Martin, Principal of Xavier College, together with Mr. Gareth Watson and Mr. David Smith. Seventeen students participated in the conference with a number of staff members from most participating schools.
The conference began with introductory activities about each participant as well as each school. It was followed by an interactive sessions on leadership by Mr Lynn Martin. This first day was concluded by a walk and sight-seeing tour to Glenelg beach in the evening.
Thursday was a busy day. It began with a short morning prayer in the Hostel chapel. Then the captains took on an adventurous and sight-seeing tour around Adelaide CBD, beginning from St. Francis Xavier cathedral and finishing at Adelaide Zoo with pandas.
Thursday afternoon was spent at Xavier College in Gawler. All captains were taken on a tour around the school by the hosts. A Eucharist was celebrated together in the Bosco Centre, formerly the college chapel following the tour. At this stage, they were joined by two other principals: Mr. Damian Carlton from St. John Bosco Engadine and Mr. Keron Gillen from St. Mark Port Pirie. This second day was concluded by a meal together at Gawler Arms hotel. Two former captains of Xavier college also joined the captains to share their leadership experiences during the meal.
Friday morning was brief, short and sweet. Only good byes and exchanging contact details. All captains were happy and excited to be on the way home after spending some quality time with fellow school captains from other schools.
