Diaconate Ordination

Deacon Chien and Bishop Costelloe

Deacon Chien and Bishop CostelloeBr. David Vichienseang Kongtrakoondee SDB, known to many as Br. Chien, was ordained into the order of Diaconate on Saturday 26th November at St. John the Baptist church in Clifton Hill.

The ordination ceremony was led by Bishop Tim Costelloe, con-celebrated by Fr. Frank Moloney, Fr. Peter Varengo, Fr. Peter Rankin and many Salesian priests of the province of Mary Help of Christians. Br Chien was particularly graced by the presence of his vice-provincial from Thailand, Fr. Augustine Yarat Chaiyara, at the ordination.

In his homily, Bishope Tim Costelloe encouraged Deacon Chien to live a life closer to Jesus through his serving ministry.

After the communion, Deacon Chien thanked to all who involved in his vocation, particularly his family from Northern Thailand, and fellow Salesians and friends in Australia and Thailand for their support and guidance. This short thank-you speech was done in three languages: English, Thai and his native language.

A variety of Thai refreshments were served in the primary school hall to all who attended the ordination.
