Having completed its pilgrimage in the India-Panjim Province the casket of Don Bosco visited a number of Salesian houses and works in the Bangalore Province.
After a first stop at Hassan, on 26 August, it made its official entrance into the Province the following day being solemnly welcomed at the Provincial House.
Fr Thomas Anchukandam, the Provincial, at once placed a garland on the casket while the other Salesians, members of the Salesian Family, Past Pupils and the faithful gathered for the occasion began to pray. In the afternoon in the Cathedral of the city, there was a Mass to welcome the casket at which the local Archbishop Bernard Moras presided.
On Sunday 28 the casketed visited both Provincial Houses, that of the Salesians and that of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA). In the morning at the Salesians’ house in little more than an hour about 600 people came to pray and sing; then in the afternoon Sr Crescentia D’Almeida, FMA Provincial, accompanied by many Sisters and children from the school, led a long procession which escorted the casket to the FMA house. Here too after being given a festive and colourful welcome the casket was exposed to the veneration of the people.
Very significant was the visit of the casket to the “Kristu Jyoti College” theological studentate. The formation community led by the Vice Rector Fr James Kadankavil, had organised a large-scale night-time procession ending with a Vigil in the Chapel of the Institute.
The following days the casket visited other cities in the Province. On Thursday 1 September it was hosted by the Salesian youth mission at Davangere; the ceremonies of welcome and reflection were especially adapted to the needs of the youngsters at risk. Many past pupils were also present having come to express their thanks to the community where they had been welcomed and trained by honouring the founder of the Salesians
On 2 September the casket visited Hospet and then in the afternoon Bellary. Here in the church of Christ the King there was Mass, concelebrated by 20 priests. On Saturday 3, in the city of Deodurga, the casket was welcomed enthusiastically by the school commuinity , relatives of the students and the local authorities.
Centres at Yadagiri, Gulbarga and Bidar were the final stops in the Bangalore Province. On 6 September Don Bosco’s relics began their visit to the Salesian houses in the Indian Province of Hyderabad.
