Don Bosco Technical Centre in Alafua, Samoa gives a “second chance” to young men who are school drop outs. The Centre offers courses in welding, motor mechanics, woodwork, electronics and plumbing. More than 85 per cent of the graduates secure employment in Samoa and those who migrate to New Zealand and Australia have been able to get work in their trade. The Centre is currently involved in a project of constructing beds, tables and chairs for families who lost their homes in the September 2009 tsumani.
The principal of the college, Fr Petelo Vito Pau SDB said “We are deeply indebted to ASMOAF for helping us cover the running costs of the Centre, providing part scholarships for students in need and tools and equipment for the workshops.”
