Although in its infancy, the Saleisan Co-ed camp in South Australia named Don Bosco Youth Camp Gawler has successfully completed its third annual camp in April this year. The leaders, with some initial support from Don Bosco Camp Dromana Victoria and from the local group; South Australian Young Salesians (SAYS), have developed skills, confidence, initiative and teamwork to give the campers a life-changing experience through their enthusiastic Salesian spirit.
This year themes of Time Travel, and Reality TV along with a trip to an adventure park were the highlights. Besides all the fun games and the building of positive relationships, the campers made high class movie trailer videos and overcame a zombie attack on one of the evenings.
Prayers related to the activities of the day with a focus on the theme of ‘using time well’, while pouring sand into an hour glass as a ritual prayer, and the theme of ‘having courage’ in stepping out in faith like St Peter; represented by an Origami boat that the campers had made, to name a few.
If positive comments from parents and campers are any indication, the camp is heading in the right direction towards future successful camps for young people in Northern Adelaide.
