The General Councillor for Formation, Fr. Francesco Cereda, and his secretary, Fr. Chrys Saldanha spent two full days at Don Bosco House, Nakasi, Suva, in Fiji recently. It was a very memorable and enjoyable time together with the confreres. Fr. Cereda was able to celebrate his birthday while in Fiji with Pacifican hospitality at first hand.
Fr. Cereda was able to speak to the Novices at Don Bosco House and to the professed students. He also managed to have some time with the formators of the community individually.
Fr. Petelo, returning from the meeting of SPAA in Melbourne, joined the visitors in Fiji. The Pacific Formation Commission also met with Fr. Cereda and Fr. Saldanha.
In addition, Fr Cereda spent some time at the Pacific Regional Seminary, PRS, where he was welcomed by Fr Michael O’Connor, SM, the Rector of the Seminary.
The last time Fr Cereda was in the Province, his visit to Suva did not go well. Indeed, subsequently the Provincial Council even considered closing the presence of our formation community there. Now, it is a different scenario all together. Students are working hard and seriously in their studies under the capable hands of Fr. Mosese, Fr. Jim Hoe and Fr. Leo Hariot. The formation community is thriving there.
On a different note, Fr. Mosese will be moving off to Savaii, back in Samoa, in the middle of 2010 to begin the work of a new Salesian Secondary School.
Fr. Taisali, who is studying and preparing in US, will take on the role of rector-ship from the second half of this year.
