The provincial of the province of Mary Help of Christians [Australia-Pacific], Fr. Frank Moloney, recently announced that Br. Filipo Kapeli SDB will be ordained a Deacon on Sunday, 8 May, 2011. Br. Filipo is well known to many at the Australian end of the Province because of his training years at Ferntree Gully and “Rupertswood.” He is now in his final year of studies at the Pacific Regional Seminary, and was admitted to the Diaconate at the Provincial Council meeting of 15 April.
There are only two ordinands this year (the other is a Marist), and the Archbishop of Suva, Petero Mataca, was very pleased to know that a Salesian would be among them. Br. Filipo will complete his studies at PRS and return to an appointment – most likely in Samoa – for 2012. After a period of ministry as a Deacon, all being well, he will be ordained a Priest in Samoa some time towards the middle of 2012.
Please keep Br. Filipo in your prayers, but also the wonderful work being done by Fr. Taisali, Fr. Jim and Fr. Paselio for the formation of our young men at Don Bosco House, Suva in Fiji.
