On 18th January, the Provincial Councilors of the Province of Mary Help of Christians [Australia-Pacific] gathered in the Province Centre chapel for a Eucharist to begin their first council meeting for the year. The Provincial Council meets once a month for a day or two depending on the agenda.
The 2018 Provincial Council is made up of Fr Bernie Graham as the Vice Provincial, Fr Anthony Nguyen as the Provincial Economer, and Br Michael Harris, Fr Phil Gleeson and Fr Petelo Vito Pau as Councillors under the leadership of Fr William Matthews the Provincial. Fr Peter Varengo is the Provincial Secretary.
The opening Eucharist was led by the new Provincial. During the homily, the Provincial invited the members of the Council to focus more on God, more on the confreres and community life, and more on the missions to the young.
Following the homily, Fr Bernie Graham made a profession of faith to assume another term as the Vice Provincial.
The Eucharist was also attended by the members of the Salesian community in Ascot Vale and some lay staff.
