Fr. Bill Edwards Laid to Rest

Don Bosco

Don BoscoA great Salesian, Fr Bill Edwards was laid to rest with a Mass celebrated in the Rupertswood chapel followed by the burial in the Rupertswood Salesian cemetry at Sunbury in Victoria on Thursday 10th June.

The Mass was celebrated by Fr Greg Chambers SDB, the vice-provincial who was a student and novice of Fr Bill, along with a large number of Salesian and diocesan priests. Bishop Tim Costelloe SDB DD was also present at the funeral.

Present were many family and friends from his early days in Rupertswood to past pupils from Salesian College Chadstone and St Joseph’s College Ferntree Gully. His brother Norm spoke wonderfully of Bill and all the friends, “angels”, who cared for him over his last years.

Fr Bill had worked in Australia and the Pacific as Rector, Headmaster ,novice master and friend to all and the key to all the remarks made about him was his unfailing kindness to everyone. He was the personification of Don Bosco in this province.
