Fr. Bill Edwards SDB passed away peacefully in the early hours of 5th June. Fr. Edwards had dementia in the last few years. Nevertheless, he was well cared for by the Lysterfield Community and many good friends from that regions particularly those of St. Joseph’s College in recent years. Fr. Edwards passing was another sad loss to Ferntree Gully & Lysterfield community.
Fr. Edwards was well known for his gentleness, generosity, cares, love and supports to all those who came across him. He served in different roles in the province as rector, principal, teacher, spiritual director, confessor, and a wonderful novice master training young Salesians. It was extremely sad to see him going through the trauma of dementia in the last few years for a good and holy man like him.
Fr. Frank Moloney sent a message to all Salesians and friends on Saturday morning saying “May this wonderful man, Priest and Salesian rest in a well-deserved peace!” Fr. Edwards certainly deserves a well-earned rest with his Lord to whom he served faithfully throughout his life.
Fr. Moloney also thanked the rector and the Lysterfield community for their care to Fr. Edwards.
Funeral arrangements are now finalized. There will be a rosary service for Fr. Edwards at St. Joseph’s College chapel in Ferntree Gully at 7:30 pm on Wednesday 9th June. The Requiem will be in the Chapel at “Rupertswood” in Sunbury at 11.30am on Thursday, 10th June. The burial will follow immediately on the Requiem.
Please remember Fr. Edwards in your prayer.
May he rest in peace, Amen!
