On Friday 17th March, family members, some close friends, a few Salesians and the Salesians of Brunswick community gathered for a Eucharist in the chapel of Don Bosco Hostel, 715 Sydney Road, to mark the golden anniversary of Fr Michael Ledda’s priestly ordination. In addition to his classmates, Fr Frank Bertagnolli and Fr Oreste Cantamessa, a close friend and co-worker, Jenny Myers, from South Australia flew in for this special occasion.
It was a quiet gathering with no speech necessary, and no presents allowed. Yet, the rector of the community, Fr John Murphy, gave a little speech before the Mass to congratulate the man of honour who has done so much, particularly in Salesian education, over the last fifty years.
During his homily, Fr Michael recounted his Salesian life of educational leadership positions in various places throughout the province. Not always been the best of health in his life, Fr Michael always gives a hundred percent to his ministry. He particularly cherished the time spent with the young men in formation at Clifton Hill for seven years.
Following the Eucharist, Fr Michael provided a special lunch at an Italian restaurant in Carlton.
Fr Michael currently serves as an assistant priest at St. Margaret Mary’s parish in North Brunswick.
