Fr Matthais Mo’s 50 anniversary of priesthood was celebrated on Wednesday 13 July at the ‘Fortune Terrace’ Chinese restaurant in Queen St at St Marys. It was attended by his community and ‘surprised’ close friends. The actual 50th anniversary date is 2 July 2011.
Fr Mo, who also celebrated 80th birthday earlier in the year, was not physically able to travel down to Melbourne to celebrate his golden anniversary of priesthood with fellow Salesians on Province Day Celebration at Lysterfield last Saturday, 9th July.
Still, he was so surprised and thrilled to share the celebration with three lay collaborators from Don Bosco Brunswick: Christine Goodear, Marie Wolff and Kay Rountree who came up from Melbourne to be part of the celebration. These ladies have been working at Don Bosco Brunswick since the time of Fr. Mo, that is over twenty years ago.
Fr. Mo is remembered for his unique kind sense of humor to many who have worked with him.
Fr. Mo is a member of St. Marys Salesian Community in western Sydney. He still keeps himself busy with Chinese Catholic ministry in any way he could, doing little works like gardening around the community house, and being an active and happy member of the community.
Congratulations Fr. Mo for your golden jubilee as a Salesian priest, and your 80th in 2011!
