On Saturday 23rd November at St John the Baptist Church in Clifton Hill, Victoria, Br Ronnie and Br John were ordained to the diaconate by the archbishop of Perth, Most Rev. Timothy Costelloe SDB.
This ordination was attended and witnessed by many local parishioners, a number of local religious and seminarians, and a number of Salesian priests from many countries.
It was held at the end of the meeting of the Salesian provincials from South East Asia and the Pacific giving the provincials an opportunity for this unifying celebration. There were also a couple of Salesian general superiors from Rome present at the ordination.
Both deacons, Br Ronnie and Br John, are members of the Salesian province of Thailand. The parents and a brother of Br Ronnie were able to come across from Thailand to be at the ordination.
During Mass, Fr Paul Prasert, the provincial of Thailand, presented and recommended the brothers for the diaconate.
In his homily, Archbishop Costelloe encouraged the deacons to do their service to the church with honour, and invited the congregation to support them in prayer.
The Melbourne weather was not the best for the occasion, yet the joyfulness of the Salesian ordination was an event to remember for those who are considering religious and priestly vocation.
