New Assistant Principal

Michael DonnellyBosco College, Engadine, NSW

I would like to extend all students and families my best wishes at the start of another year at St John Bosco College. I would especially like to welcome our new families and students. It is certainly an exciting time for our Year 7 students as they quickly try to settle in to new routines and surroundings.

I would also like to take the opportunity to introduce myself as the new Assistant Principal and let you know a little about my previous experiences. I have been teaching for 23 years and began my vocation at Marcellin College Randwick. I have most recently been Assistant Principal at Marist College Penshurst for the last 5 years and spent term 4 as the Acting Principal. Prior to that, I was at Aquinas College Menai for 10 years in various positions as a Year Coordinator, HSIE Coordinator and Pastoral Care Coordinator. I have also done Acting Assistant Principal positions in two schools.

My teaching areas are in Religious Education and the Humanities. I have a particular interest in issues that involve the welfare and Pastoral Care of students. I feel it is important to be proactive in helping to educate young people around issues and concerns during adolescence. Happy, settled and balanced young people are certainly more likely to engage in their education.

How young people treat their peers, engage in social media and respect the rights of others is an area where I feel they need constant support and guidance from families and the school. I am encouraged by the structures and programs that the College has in place. I look forward to working closely with Mrs Babic, Year Coordinators and staff to help provide our students with many worthwhile opportunities for their own personal development.

How our students are perceived by both our local community and the wider community is very important for the College and the long term benefits this can have for our students. I will be actively challenging our students to consider their behaviour, uniform and grooming especially when in public. You will see me out and about in the local area so feel free to come up and say hello.

I look forward to meeting parents at upcoming College events and getting to know families and the workings of the local parish. I hope 2011 is another great year for our students and continues to build on the rich heritage that is St John Bosco College, Engadine.

Mr Michael Donnelly
