Saint Francis de Sales and Saint John Bosco have been chosen as exemplars of “priests who became saints” in the Year for Priests. Along with the great Jesuit missionary St.Francis Xavier, and St.Peter Julian Eymard, the founder of the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament, the Salesian patron and the founder of the Salesian Society, are the four saints whose priestly ministries are described in a resource for a special ‘Novena for Priests’ being held in the Archdiocese of Adelaide.
Archbishop Philip Wilson wrote to parishes and diocesan agencies,
In this Year for Priests, I ask that all the people of the Archdiocese of Adelaide join with me in praying a Novena for Priests. The Novena will start on March 17, the Feast of St Patrick, Patron of the Archdiocese, and conclude on March 25, Feast of the Annunciation. In this way we can join together in praying for our priests in our homes, schools and parishes, asking that God may bless them in their ministry, inspire them in their preaching and teaching, and refresh them with renewed vigour and enthusiasm. I am grateful that the Office for Worship has provided some resources for use during this time. They are suitable for both private and group prayer, and will be available electronically and can also be downloaded from the Archdiocesan website at (www.adelaide.catholic.org.au/sites/ArchbishopsOffice)
The Salesians of Don Bosco have been present in the Adelaide Archdiocese since 1943, and are located at Brooklyn Park and Gawler.
