Dear Salesians and Members of the Salesian Family,
As we approach the 199th Anniversary of Don Bosco’s Birthday on Saturday 16 August 2014 (which is also the formal beginning of his Bicentenary celebrations in the northern hemisphere), I wish to officially launch the Bicentenary Logo of the Salesian Province and Family in Australia-Pacific.
You will immediately see that the logo focuses clearly on Don Bosco and the period of 200 years since his birth in 1815.
You will also notice that it includes a strong reference to Australia-Pacific which is further underlined by the all-pervasive blue background which symbolises the blue sky and ocean of the Pacific region.
This symbolism is reinforced by the presence of the stars of the Southern Cross which shine upon the people of the Pacific. The four main stars which form the Cross watch over and protect the four presences in our Salesian Province: Australia, Samoa, Fiji and New Zealand.
So there you have it: our official Salesian Logo for the 2015 Bicentenary!
I encourage you to make use of it creatively and fruitfully in your own particular local situations and circumstances. In the coming days, this logo will also be available in a variety of formats on the Province website (under Resources) for your use.
Our Lady of the Southern Cross – Pray for Us.
Yours in Don Bosco,Fr. Greg Chambers Provincial Australia-Pacific
