Fr. Frank Moloney visited the Salesians in South Australia between 13th and 16th July, 2010. This is his annual visit in which he catch up with every Salesian and see how Salesian works are going in South Australia.
Fr. Moloney arrived on Tuesday evening and gave an opening conference to the Salesians who gathered at Brooklyn Park.
He spent both Wednesday and Thursday speaking to all Confreres individually to discuss their present situations and their futures. He also looked through the house chronicle and overall financial situation.
Fr. Moloney was also able to celebrate a Mass for the Salesian Cooperators at the Salesian sisters’ convent on Wednesday evening during this visit.
All Salesians and the provincial gathered for a Eucharist on Thursday evening during which he gave the report to the Community. Overall, he was very happy with the situation in South Australia and the work done by the Salesians. Fr. Moloney went back to Victoria on Friday morning.
South Australia has one canonical community with two houses: Brooklyn Park and Gawler. Brooklyn Park has a parish, a hostel, two primary schools and migrant chaplaincy. Gawler has a parish and a secondary school named Xavier College.
Currently, there are eight Salesian priests living and working in South Australia, and Fr. Alan MacDonald happily retiring at Flora McDonald retirement home.
