Sir, we want to see Jesus [Jn 12:21]
Our challenge this year is to make Jesus present to all in our community. In our actions, our words and deeds we are asked to be like Jesus and use his example to guide us everyday. Don Bosco encouraged his followers to do their best and help others, his students, his teachers and fellow priests. Michael Rua was his first successor and another inspiring example for us to draw to guide us. My hope is that we can truly be great examples.
The Rector Major, Fr. Chavez, has made an international appeal to all Salesian Communities to help fundraise and support the people of Haiti. On January 12ththe earthquake destroyed much of the country, there were 9 Salesian Communities in Haiti and 60 Salesians working in those communities which have practically been destroyed. Throughout Term 1 especially we will be running fundraising activities for this appeal and hope that many in the community will be generous in their donations.
Our Annual Commencement mass will be held on 18th February at 7 pm. It is a wonderful way to celebrate the beginning of the school year. This year we are also having a presentation ceremony for the student leaders of the College, the SRC and House Leaders. All students who are elected to the SRC and leadership positions are requited to attend this celebration to receive their badges. It promises to be a wonderful celebration and opportunity to recognize the achievement of these students.
