Fr Ted passed away in Sydney on 9th September after a short battle with cancer.
The Mass was led by the provincial, Fr Greg Chambers SDB, with a number of concelebrating Salesian and diocesan priests. A few Salesian Brothers and Salesian Sisters also paid tribute to Fr Ted in the Eucharist.
A number of Fr Ted's family members were there too to celebrate his grateful life in the Eucharist.
Following the Eucharist, Fr Ted was laid to rest in the Salesian cemetery in the college ground. It was an impressive scene to see years 7 and 8 students with their teachers from Rupertswood forming the Guard of Honour as Fr Ted's coffin was taken from the college chapel to the cemetery.
Fr Ted spent a good number of years as leader and teacher in Salesian education. He was twice a rector-principal at Salesian College Chadstone in Victoria where he also managed to inspire some young men to become Salesians. He spent about ten years in Northern Territory working with indigenous people.
Fr Ted Cooper was a prolific writer and a historian. He particularly wrote two books on the history of the Salesian presence in Australia: Unless the Grain Falls and Grateful Heirs.
May he rest in peace, Amen!
