A group of Salesian priests and brothers from the province of Mary Help of Christians gathered at the Salesian Retreat Centre at Lysterfield in Victoria for their annual retreat last week. The retreat was preached by a renowned Salesian preacher, Fr Peter Varengo SDB.
The retreat started on Sunday 29th September and finished on the following Saturday. The theme of the retreat was about a radical way of following Christ in the footsteps of St John Bosco. Various topics such as Identity and Mission, Calling and Response, Healing Trust, Relationship with God, and the Discipleship were explored and reflected on during the week.
Salesian retreats are quite unique. There are times for listening, reflecting, sharing and praying. Remarkably, the Salesian Retreat Centre at Lysterfield does provide space and environment for every retreater for their spiritual and human development. [Sometimes, it depends of the famous Melbourne weather!]
On the last day of the retreat, Fr. Peter Varengo led the communal Eucharist during which all Salesians renewed their religious vows. This renewal is a customary practice carried out at the end of each retreat.
