Wednesday 13th September would probably be one of the most memorable days for all staff and students at Salesian College in Sunbury, Victoria. It certainly was a very enjoyable day in spirit of St. John Bosco.
All students, staff and a number of invited guests including their feeder primary school students gathered at the Lakeside stadium in the morning on 13th September 2017 for a Eucharist to mark the occasion of 90th anniversary of Salesian College in Sunbury Victoria.
The Archbishop of Melbourne, Most Rev. Denis Hart, celebrated the Eucharist before 1500 people gathered in the stadium. His Grace was concelebrated by the Rector of the college, the parish priest of Sunbury, a former principal and rector Fr John Papworth SDB, and a former student and the current rector of Lysterfield Community Fr Martin Tanti SDB.
In his homily, Archbishop Hart related well to the ministry of St John Bosco in Turin and the education provided at Salesian College Sunbury to the students. He also acknowledged and paid tribute to the contributions and service of the Salesians past and present to the young in Sunbury.
Sr Rochelle Lamb FMA took charge of the choir that played and sang magnificently during the Eucharist.
Following the Eucharist, the invited guests, some students and staff joined the Archbishop in the Salesian residence for a special morning tea.
In the afternoon, the Luna Park in St Kilda was the venue for all students and staff to celebrate in joy the spirit of St John Bosco for 90 years of his presence.
