Salesian Missions Month

We are officially in Salesian Missions Month in the Province of Mary Help of Christians [Australia & Pacific]. It commenced on the Assumption of Mary, 15 August, and will conclude on 14 September.During this month all communities are invited to pray for the Salesian Missions Day theme for 2018. This year the theme is: Whispering the Gospel – Initial Proclamation and Vocational Training Centres in Asia.  It is also an opportune time to refocus on our own missionary commitment.

All Salesians, religious and lay, have a call to be a missionary in their vocation. The Rector Major stresses – “the missionary aspect becomes typical of every Salesian, because it is rooted in the Salesian Spirit. It is therefore not something added to some. It is like the heart of pastoral charity, the gift that characterizes the vocation of all. This means that the missionary dimension is an essential element of our charism”.

There has, and will continue to be a strong focus on initial proclamation throughout the Salesian world. This is simply any activity that stirs up an interest to know Jesus or reawakens a dormant faith in him. How is this to be achieved? Every day committing to being our best selves and living in a way that witnesses to the life of Jesus.

This month, let us pray for our brothers and sisters in Asia and pray for our own missionary vocation! Many blessings for a wonderful month.
