Rectors of the province of Mary help of Christians together with two Priests-in-charge and the provincial council members met at the Salesian Province Centre on 11-12 March. It was the first of two meetings annually held to discuss the matters of the province and planning for the events to come.
On the first day, 11th March, the provincial reported the events happening in the province in his opening address. The focus of the topics were the local Provincial Chapter in 2016, the visit of the Rector Major in May 2015, and the Extraordinary Visitation of the Regional Superior Fr Vaclav Klement later this year. In the afternoon, Fr John Papworth led a session on the application of the deliberations from the Bicentenary conference in Geelong in January 2015 in community life. The first day concluded with a Eucharist led by Fr Will Matthews, followed by dinner.
The second day of the meeting was mainly on reports from various sectors of the province such as the finance, vocations, formations and looking after the elderly confreres. In the afternoon, Fr John Papworth explained the plan the province has for the Salesian Family Day going to be held at Salesian College in Chadstone on Sunday 16th August, the actual birthday of St John Bosco the 200th year.
The meeting was concluded by the provincial, Fr Greg Chambers, with a vote of thanks and a short prayer with God’s blessing.
The next Rectors and Priests in Charge meeting will be in September 2015.
