Salesian students take reins of new food festival

Salesian College VCAL students will run the first Rupertswood Food Festival on this Friday, 17th October.

Applied learning leader Gary Hickey said the festival was a celebration after the efforts of 20 students who have run the college’s vast on-site farm and vegie patch.

The community is welcome to attend and pick up produce including vegies, eggs, cow and chook manure, and worm juice.

“The students are running the whole project and it follows from a year where they have looked after the school’s vegie patch, sheep, chooks and cattle,” Mr Hickey said.

“They are very focused and it’s a great outlet, as typically these students have been disengaged from schools.”

The festival is on this Friday, from 4:30 – 6:30 PM at the school’s vegie patch. For more details, email gcarland@scr.vic.edu.au.
