Salesians celebrated Mary Help of Christians

Many Salesians from Melbourne gathered at the Province Centre on 24th May to celebrate the Feast of Mary Help of Christians.

In addition to Mary’s status  (under the title of Help of Christians) as the patron of both the Australia-Pacific Province and of Australia, this year is the 150th Anniversary of the Dedication of the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians at Valdocco.

The occasion began with the celebration of Eucharist by the Provincial, Fr Will Matthews.

This was followed by a Lectio given by Fr Frank Moloney on two key scriptural texts often used for Marian Feasts.

The first passage was Revelation 12:1-18 ‘The vision of the woman and the Dragon’ – Humankind as it is!

The second passage from the Gospel of John 19:25-27 ‘Jesus and his mother at the foot of the Cross’ – Humankind as it should be!

A festive meal was then shared by all present. Many thanks to the Ascot Vale community and staff who again provided terrific hospitality.
