Our celebration of Salesian Works is called Salesian Action Day. Our focus for this year is fundraising and supporting the brand new Salesian school that is being built in Samoa. Classes started at the beginning of this year in the Parish Hall while the buildings are being finished. Our dux from 2009, Michael Billington is spending the year there as a volunteer teacher.
Each Salesian school in Australia has been asked to assist the students in this new school. To this end St Joseph’s College will be running a series of fundraising events for students during the week of June 14-17. SRC students are developing ideas and activities for fundraising to be conducted during recess and lunch times of this week. We are asking students to participate in these activities and be generous in their donations for the new school.
The annual cross country run is a part of the Salesian Action Day (June 17) as well and students are asked to collect sponsorship money from family and friends to support this cause. An envelope for these donations will be sent home with the students next week and students can begin collecting donations.
