St Joseph’s College celebrates 50 years

The commencement Eucharist for the golden anniversary of St Josephs College Ferntree Gully was held at St Patrick’s Cathedral in East Melbourne on Monday 9th February. It was attended by every student and staff of the college community and a few former staff.

The provincial of the Salesians, Fr Greg Chambers SDB, was the main celebrant. He was con-celebrated by Fr John Prest SDB, Fr Jim Acreman SDB, Fr Will Matthews SDB, Fr Alan Fox of St John’s Ferntree Gully parish and Fr Sebastian Mappilaparambil VC of Our Lady’s Bayswater parish.

Before the Eucharist began, Mr John Fazzino the principal of the college, welcomed all students, staff, parents, special guests and celebrants.

Mr Vin Feeney, is currently looking after St Francis Xavier College in Berwick, Victoria.

During the homily, Fr Greg Chambers congratulated the college community for reaching a milestone and encouraged them to follow the examples of St Joseph and St John Bosco who were both renowned for the education of young men.

More celebrations of the golden jubilee will be held throughout the year. Families and friends are all invited to the fun day on March 22nd at the college beginning at 10:00 am.

St Joseph College presently has a very healthy enrolment and is very popular for the education of boys in the area.
