There was an excellent response to our Samoa fundraiser on Friday 23rd October. Donations were collected from home groups for wearing the house shirt. A group of enthusiastic Year 7 students and Young Vinnies made cakes and caramel slices in the preceding week. Mrs Helen Wright supervised the purchase of ingredients and oversaw the cooking and decorating process.
Charmaine Tanwangco (MO 3) was the mastermind behind the caramel slices which were eagerly purchased at recess and lunchtime. Students from all year levels, including our new students leaders for 2010, organised the set up for the barbecue and prepared and sold the sausages. Fr Peter organised live music during lunchtime and we listened to Year 11 girls, Shelby Jones and Rebecca Banks-Ward, playing guitars and singing. There was a festive atmosphere and after all monies were counted and donations received, an amount of $3000 was collected and will be distributed through the Salesian Missions which have a big presence in Samoa.
O’Grady House is still organising the donation of goods which will be sent to Samoa through the Brimbank Anglican Church.
Thanks to all students and their parents who have contributed goods and money to this very worthwhile appeal.
