Br Barry Parker SDB, a Salesian Brother, has been visiting from Victoria to undertake his final Teaching Practicum Placement from 11 August to 5 September. He is studying a Graduate Diploma in Technology Education through La Trobe University which qualifies him to teach in secondary schools in the specialist areas of Technology and Vocational Education and Training (VET).
Br Barry has been working with Mr Mangione and Mr Williams and teaching Year 7-10 Design in Wood and Metal classes, VET classes and Computer Graphics and Design. Br Barry has been a wonderful asset to the teaching team, working in the Dezani Design Centre and the students have enjoyed having him take their classes and assist them in developing their wood and metal working skills.
Br Barry, prior to becoming a Salesian, was as a Fitter & Turner (CNC) for 21 years, where he was in charge of the design department (AutoCAD) and then CNC Shopfloor Supervisor.
Over the past three-and-a-half years Br Barry has been working as a teaching assistant in both Product Design and Systems Engineering at Salesian College, Chadstone, along with helping out in the Year 10 Photographic Classes.
Br Barry has put his photographic skills to good use while here at Dominic where he enthusiastically took the role of photographing special events such as the 7-10 Academic Awards Assembly and the Blessing and Opening of the Savio Wing.
We wish him well after his last week with us at Dominic College and wish him all the best as he completes the final stages of his qualification. We will all miss his presence with us at Dominic and especially his contribution to the teaching programs in the Dezani Design Centre. Thanks to Mr Mangione and Mr Williams for their work as colleague teachers during his practicum placements and to Mrs Fraser for co-ordinating the placement.
