A few days before World Youth Day, Fr Luis Onrubia Miguel, Salesian Provincial of Madrid, has published on the site donbosco2011, a message welcoming young people from the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM) who will be taking part in WYD inviting them to see it as a commitment by the Church and the Salesians. The full text follows.
Welcome to Madrid!
Madrid, 1 August 2011
In the next few days many young people from the Salesian Youth Movement will begin their journey on the way to Spain, to Madrid, to take part in the WYD. It is s good opportunity to feel part of the Church, called together by Benedict XVI, and also members of the large Salesian Family.
In the name of this Family in Madrid I want to welcome you. All of us members of the Salesian Family are working so that you can enjoy this experience deeply, this “celebration of the faith,” as the Pope himself has described it.
In addition to the various special appointments at the WYD (catechesis, cultural activities, meetings with the Pope, especially at the Cuatro Vientos), on 17 August we shall come together as the SYM at the Atocha Salesian Institute around the Rector Major and the Mother General, and together we shall celebrate the joy of sharing the same faith and living it in the context of the Salesian charism. It is a happy coincidence that we shall celebrate this day the day after 16 August, when the Rector Major, from Colle Don Bosco, will propose to the whole Salesian Family the process of preparation for the Bicentenary of the birth of Don Bosco in 2015.
I also invite you to pray. starting now, for the success of this year’s WYD. I hope that at the end, everyone of us will commit ourselves to being credible witnesses to the Gospel and to live “planted and built up in Christ firm in the faith,” in order to transform the world and our society.
Let us entrust the intentions of the whole Church, of Pope Benedict XVI and of each one of the young pilgrims who will be coming to Madrid to the hands of Mary, Help of Christians.
