The Strenna, in addition to our Founders, cites some witnesses who, like them, "hoped against all hope", and who encourage us also how to be today in the Church and in the world "capable of living it and giving it". It is a call for the Salesian Family to allow itself to be "moved'' by hope.

Most human beings have an almost infinite capacity for taking things for granted – well would we do to remember these words: “When we take things for granted, the things we are granted get taken.” The more often we see the things around us - even the beautiful and wonderful - the more they become invisible to us.

“You say you love your children above all else and yet you are stealing their future in front of their very eyes.” These are words of Greta Thunberg, the popular Swedish Environmental Activist. Her September 2018 speech on the BBC went viral in social media. It was effectively delivered after her climate strike outside the Swedish parliament.

My dear Friends,

I write these lines as a spiritual leader, empathizing with the sentiments of millions of people at this moment. I write to my dear people, the civilian leaders, the Tatmadaw (Myanmar army) and the international community. I have watched with sadness the moments of darkness in our history and watched with hope the resilience of our people in their struggle for dignity. We are journeying through the most challenging times of our history. I write with love towards all, seeking a durable solution, praying for an end forever to the periodic darkness that envelops our dear nation.
