"Merci" is French for thank-you; a message sent to all healthcare workers worldwide.

As churches remain closed, Archbishop Orani Tempesta conducted Easter Service mass at the base of the Christ the Redeemer Statue, which over looks the massive city of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.

The 38-metre-tall statue was illuminated to make it look like the giant statue of Jesus was wearing a doctor’s outfit; dressed in scrubs and equipped with a stethoscope. The statue was also illuminated with images of nurses and various messages thanking healthcare workers around the world appeared.

The flags of some of the hardest hit countries were also exhibited, as messages of hope were sent around the world. This is the second the time the statue has been lit up in this way; about one month ago it was lit up with all the flags of countries that had been affected by the COVID-19 epidemic
