St John Bosco Parish, Suva, Fiji came alive on 24 May 2023, as the community gathered to celebrate the Feast Day of Mary Help of Christians. This great Salesian feast was also marked by the installation of Brother Peter Anh Vu Nguyen for the Ministry of Acolyte.
The day began with Morning Prayer, setting the tone of heartfelt devotion and gratitude to our Blessed Mother. The highlight of the feast day was the celebration of the Eucharist, at which Fr Taisali Leuluai (Parish Priest) presided and which was concelebrated by Fr Peter Minh Duc Nguyen and Fr James Kyaw Hoe (Rector). The simple yet elegant decoration of the Youth Centre for the Eucharist and the enthusiastic singing at the Eucharist showed the great love of the people for our beloved Mother, the Help of Christians.
Br. Peter Anh Vu was installed for the Ministry of Acolyte by Fr Jim. Most noticeable was the young people’s attention to the brief and deeply meaningful significance of Br Peter dedicatinghis life to deepening his love for the Word of God, for the Eucharist, and for our blessed Mother. Through this ministry, Br. Peter brings God’s love and forgiveness to his people.
The traditional kava ceremony (sevusevu) took place after the Eucharistic Celebration. The feast day cake, refreshments, and ice cream were all part of our expression of joy and thanks for the gift of a wonderful Mother to all God’s people.
