Newly elected provincial of the Australia-Pacific Province Fr Peter Hoang outside St Joseph's Church in Collingwood, VIC

Fr Peter Hoang Kim Huy SDB, has been appointed Provincial of the Australia-Pacific Province for the six year period of 2024-2029.

Currently, Fr Peter holds the positions of the Vice Provincial and the Rector of the Salesian Community and College in Sunbury. He is also the Provincial Delegate for Social Communications.

Born and raised in Vietnam, Peter entered the Salesian pre-novitiate in 1987 at Oakleigh, Victoria and made his first profession as a Salesian of our Australia-Pacific Province in 1989. He was ordained a priest at St Jude’s in Scoresby in 1997 by Bishop Hilton Deakin.

Following ordination, Peter served as teacher at St Joseph’s College in Ferntree Gully and Dominic College Glenorchy. He also served as the parish priest of Our Lady of the Southern Cross parish in Collingwood & Clifton Hill for many years while being a member of the Don Bosco formation community.

Fr Peter will officially commence his mandate as Provincial on Monday 1st January 2024. He was appointed by Salesian Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, with the consent of his General Council, who came to the decision after a consultation process with the Australia-Pacific province.

Speaking on the announcement, incumbent Fr Will Matthews had this to say: “ I warmly congratulate Fr Peter Hoang on his appointment, let us offer him our prayers and filial support as he takes up this important service of animation and governance among us for the next six years”
